Congressman Ray LaHood and Shari
Stout, Commerce Department
International Trade Specialist, presented
Maui Jim Sunglasses with the prestigious
U.S. Department of Commerce’s Export
Achievement Certificate. This award is
given to business clients of the
Commerce Department’s U.S.
Commercial Service in recognition of a
company’s first export sale or the opening
of new foreign markets.
During his visit to the Peoria, Illinois facility, Congressman LaHood stated,
Maui Jim is a wonderful Peoria-based company that has shown how
international trade makes a positive impact on our community. It is not just the
huge, multinational corporations that benefit from free trade, it is small
manufacturers, farmers, suppliers, and other local businesses that rely on
overseas markets to sell their goods. In turn, these small businesses contribute
mightily to the economy by providing good jobs throughout the country. I
congratulate Maui Jim on this award and I thank them for their support of the
Peoria-area economy. I am proud to represent this company as a part of my
district.
