Adhesive Eyewear Helps Sports Competitors Stick With It
Adrenaline seeking sports enthusiasts are in for an upgrade to their game gear arsenal—disposable, self-adhering eyegear™—the first of its kind. The days of loose fitting eyewear held in place with cords and straps, and those telltale glasses or goggle wearing indentations on the bridge of your nose and face may soon be gone, complements of a patent-pending approach to eyewear, from SharkLids Eyegear, LLC™ (Grand Blanc, MI).
SharkLids’ prototype eyegear is based on UV, antifog treated, transparent or tinted films and 3M™, hypoallergenic, medical-grade adhesive. This combination results in lightweight, stylish, disposable sunglasses and swim goggles that directly adhere to the wearer. About as thin as three human hairs (12 mil) and as light as a couple of pennies (4 grams), they replace more expensive, heavier eyewear that can become dislodged during sports activities. Skin-friendly™, the adhesive eyewear can be comfortably worn for a multitude of bone-jarring sporting events. Photographs of the products, optimized for use in publications, as well as an introductory video featuring a colossal face plant are available for download at sharklids.com.
Scheduled for introduction at the SGMA International’s Super Show® World of Sports Innovation® in Las Vegas, is SharkLids’ conceptual line of sunglasses, called Blaze™, and swimming goggles, named Wake™.
Extremely lightweight, secure and comfortable, Blaze™ and Wake™ go virtually unnoticed by the wearer. Based on state-of-the-art, thin film technologies, SharkLids conform to the wearer’s facial topography and adhere to skin using a 3M™, hypoallergenic, medical grade adhesive. The frame-free design delivers an unobstructed field of view. Before an event, competitors simply ‘stick on’ the single use eyegear, compete, and then comfortably remove the one-piece unit when finished. The adhesive is formulated to provide unshakable performance while remaining easy to take off. Removal is far less harrowing than taking off an adhesive bandage—it’s painless.
Product prototypes have been created and preliminary product and market assessments have been completed. Michigan-based SharkLids Eyegear, LLC is looking for potential licensees and business partners to further the concept and bring the products to market.
