The Kangaroo Jumps Onto Apparel, Bags, and Eyewear as Kangol Announces New Licenses
Kangol will soon be more than a hip hat. Now the brand can be worn head-totoe
since signing a license deal with Chesterfield Manufacturing for apparel and Bollman Hat
Company for bags and eyewear. All three new product categories will have a small collection
for Spring 2003 followed by a full launch that will take place for the Fall 2003 season.
The apparel, bags, and eyewear will stay true to the eclectic look of Kangol by pulling
inspiration from three eras of its rich history. The traditional look of the late 1930’s, the retro
feel of the 80’s and the modern vibe of 2003 and the new millennium are combined to create the
mixed-media appeal in all Kangol product lines.
In fact, these three reference points are so
reflective in the Kangol brand that the numeral logo 38.83.03 is used throughout the collections
representing significant years for Kangol history: 1938 (founding year), 1983 (when the 16 year
old LL Cool J wore a Bermuda hat, sparking the Kangol trend in the United States), and 2003
(the current year). The latter numeral will change with each season…04, 05, 06, and so on.
The apparel line features men and women’s sportswear for the contemporary consumer.
Retailers include better department and specialty stores. Key pieces will include athletic as well
as edgier fashion-forward looks with prices ranging from $20 for basic tees to $6000 for special
leather pieces.
Rounding out the total Kangol look, the bags and sunglasses coordinate with the apparel style.
Bag retail prices range from $20 for a wallet to $300 for messenger bags. The sunglass price
points are between $65 to $80 retail.
