CANOE/KAYAK - USACK Announces New Licensee/Supplier

Canoe/Kayak is pleased to announce a new licensee for their 2002 National Teams. SportSunglass, Inc. out of Minneapolis, Minn. has been signed to provide their brand new Floating Sunglasses to USACK team members when they are selected later this year.

A brand-new product, Floating Sunglasses were launched late last fall and this is the first season they will be on the market. Tom Maher, President of SportSunglass, Inc. came up with the product last summer after fishing with his brothers.

Minnesota is the Land of 10,000 Lakes, said Maher. There are so many water sports here and I saw a need for sunglasses that float.

Three years ago, Maher patented sunglasses that attach to baseball caps and he wanted to expand his current line and offer more sports-related sunglasses.

Maher tested his new Floating Sunglasses with canoeing, kayaking and water skiing. The lenses are made out of polycarbonate which is the same material used to make safety glasses. The bright colors he uses for the straps make them easy to find too.

Because of the amount of feedback I got from the outfitters, I realized how much people like them and think they work really well, Maher said.

SportSunglass, Inc. will provide 150 pairs of Floating Sunglasses for USACK team members this season. The straps on the glasses will be available in red, blue and neon orange and pink.

I'm really excited to be helping out USACK, Maher said. It's going to be great. I think it's a perfect fit for canoeing and kayaking. The sunglasses are ideal for water sports because they float as well as protect athletes' eyes from the sun. They're the best lenses available to block UVA and UVB rays.

A portion of the proceeds from each pair of Floating Sunglasses with the USA Canoe/Kayak logo sold will be given to USACK. The glasses retail for $14.95 and starting in March may be purchased from the USACK website, www.usack.org for two dollars off the original price.
